Waterman’s Exeter, California Headquarters

History

The company was founded by W.A. Waterman in 1912 as a fabricator of metal components for the growing California Central Valley agricultural markets. Waterman’s purchase of the Red Top line in the early 1930’s gave the company a leading position in both agricultural water distribution and on-farm water management products.

Don Appling became company President in 1953, and rapidly expanded the company into production of large and complex sluice gates, slide gates and radial gates for water projects throughout the Western United States. A new plant was opened in 1963 to support growth, which led to projects worldwide. The company remains one of North America’s leading suppliers of gates for municipal water treatment and rural water distribution systems.
