Waterman Introduces New Water Control Innovations
Waterman CEO Ken Mikesell was recently interviewed for the upcoming WEFTEC conference of water and wastewater management professionals. Here are some excerpts of the conversation:
Q: Tell Us About Waterman Industries.|
Waterman has been a leader in engineered water control products for the water and wastewater industries since 1912. Our specialties are sluice gates, slide gates and other products that control fluid movement in water treatment plants, agricultural applications and in the overall watershed.
Our heritage is producing products that must last for decades. It’s not uncommon for one of our control gates to be in continuous service for over 50 years. Each project we encounter is different, requiring us to collaborate with the client on the specific requirements.
While the basic configuration of the products used in our industry has changed little over time, how we build them has changed dramatically. We have become known as the industry innovator for developing new features that make our current offering more precise in controlling water. Computer-driven design tools like Finite Element Analysis allow us to model the performance of our products and to innovate new ways to make them better.
Q: You mentioned innovation is a key theme at Waterman. Give us some examples of new things you will be showing at WEFTEC.
We are very proud of our family of stainless steel slide gates. They feature a patented new sealing system that we call Guardian, which outperforms the industry standard by a factor of 5. For the engineer selecting a gate for project, Guardian gives him or her unmatched performance.
We are the only manufacturer that offers new best-in-class cast gates across all of the popular sizes. These new models have been carefully designed to seal tighter and operate better than any other cast gate on the market. Our cast gates perform in extreme conditions and ensure the safety of people who live downstream of reservoirs.
Q: What makes Waterman stand out from other suppliers of similar products?
In one word: service. Our team takes pride in being extremely customer responsive. Engineers call us with immediate needs for gates and controls for new facilities and for refurbishment of existing facilities. We swing into action and provide them with smart solutions that meet their needs for value, performance and longevity. I am very proud that we have made a commitment to have the largest team of experienced engineers to support our customers’ needs. We want to be the “go to people” our customers turn to for projects of all types.
